The Backstory...
Peterloo Hotels has grown from a newly established company in 2001 to developing and owning Manchester's first ever 5-Star hotel.
Below are the edited highlights of that history and our aspirations for future growth in hospitality investment.
Where it all began
Peterloo Hotels was established in 2001 to facilitate the purchase of the Grade II Listed Free Trade Hall in Manchester. It was founded by Stephen Barker who remains the Managing Director today.
The company successfully redeveloped the Free Trade Hall into a 5-star rated asset, opening its doors in May 2004.
Since then the hotel has won many awards for its product and service, as voted for by members of the public as well as industry peers.
A Family Business
Peterloo Hotels has seen 1st generation family join the business. Stephen's youngest son Daniel was recruited in 2003 after completing his first degree at Hull University Business School.
Together their complementing skills sets create a positive and dynamic approach to hotel development.

The focus is to add value to the trading business through active asset management, Peterloo is not a passive hotel owner/investor.
Primarily concentrating on the upscale brands to run assets, if an opportunity was attractive enough we would also consider some of the well established budget operators.

Below are a few of the requirements we assess all new opportunity on.
Location, Location, Location
Sell the destination first, and the hotel offering will follow.
Peterloo Hotels are interested in strategic locations throughout the UK and preferably outside of central London. A good hotel in any town can lift surrounding areas and encourage further inward investment.
Getting Spades in the Ground
Now is the time to get flags down in locations that can support new bedstock in addition to operator demand to establish new trading positions.
This can be achieved by bringing new brands into existing trading businesses or redeveloping key sites.
Existing Trading Assets
Existing trading assets, or hotel groups looking to dispose of individual properties, is also of interest.
Strong turnover is desirable even if profitability falls short. Ideally freehold sites however suitably long-leasehold interests would also be considered.

Peterloo Hotels source external services for the business using a wide network of hotel industry specialists, on a project specific basis.

Stephen has enjoyed an interesting professional career spanning local government, housing associations and private practice as a former Chartered Architect and Surveyor.
Educated to Masters level with a post graduate diploma in Architecture, in addition to acquiring professional membership of two Chartered institutions, Stephen provides a skill set that has wide application to almost all aspects of Peterloo Hotels' activities.
Daniel Barker
Development DirectorBA (Hons) PgDipSurv MRICS
The first hotel experience of Daniel's career began at the Victoria & Albert Hotel in Manchester, then owned by Le Meridien Hotel Group. This role gave him an invaluable insight into a sector that would play a major role in his future business activities.
He went on to complete a post-graduate degree, through Reading University, enabling him to develop a base knowledge of all things property and he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor through the Development and Planning Faculty.
